A CLEARER HEDGE-CUTTING QUOTE

Three details help us understand the job.

A quick description is enough to start. If possible, include:

  • The approximate hedge height and length
  • What needs doing: trim, shape or reduction
  • Access, clippings and an optional photograph

Please don't upload photos showing people, sensitive information or neighbouring properties unnecessarily. We'll confirm the scope and quote before work is arranged.

Wildlife-safe

Hedge cutting and nesting birds

The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 protects wild birds' nests while they are in use or being built. Active nests may be present outside the usual spring and summer nesting period.

Hedge work must not damage or destroy an active nest. If one is present, work affecting it needs to be changed or delayed until it is lawful and appropriate to proceed.

The right time to cut depends on the hedge, the work and wildlife activity. A light trim and a major reduction may need very different planning.
When to cut

The best times for a tidy hedge.

January – February

Late winter cut-back

Some shaping work may suit cooler months, depending on the species, hedge condition and nesting activity.

March – August

Nesting season

Cutting must not damage an active nest. Work may need to wait or be limited to unaffected parts of the hedge.

September – October

Autumn tidy

Autumn maintenance can be suitable for some hedges. The right timing depends on species and site conditions.

Hedge cutting FAQs

Your questions, answered.

How much does hedge cutting cost?
Every hedge is different, so we price by quote. Send us a photo, the rough length and height, and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a clear price before any work starts.
Do you take the cuttings away?
Do not assume waste removal is included. Tell us how you would like clippings handled, and ask us to confirm the arrangement and any charge in your quote before booking.
Do I need to be at home?
Not always. If we can reach the hedge safely and you are happy for us to go ahead, we can agree the details by phone beforehand.
Can you cut hedges in spring and summer?
Sometimes, where no active nests would be disturbed and the work is otherwise suitable. Nest protection is not limited to particular months; affected work should be postponed when needed.
