Safer visits start with clear arrangements.

Every visit should begin with listening: what you want to do yourself, where a helping hand would be welcome and which arrangements feel comfortable. Compassion, dignity and respect sit alongside clear expectations about tasks, access, checks and price.

Before a visit

Three things to make clear first

01

The work and access

Explain the tasks, the property access and anything that could affect suitability. For garden work, include hedge size, access and the arrangements for clippings or waste.

02

The price and extras

Ask for the work, visit length and possible extras to be agreed before booking. Shopping costs, materials, travel or waste arrangements should not be left unclear.

03

Who is involved

The person receiving help should lead decisions about their tasks, routine and information sharing. If a relative is arranging or paying, agree their involvement and any updates with the person's wishes in mind.

Clear boundaries

What Home Help Direct does not provide

No personal care. We do not provide washing, bathing, dressing, toileting or hands-on personal hygiene.

No clinical care or medication administration. Speak to an appropriate registered provider for regulated or clinical support.

No passwords, PINs or online-banking access. Never share these through an enquiry form or during a visit.

No emergency response. Home Help Direct is not an emergency service.

Checks and proof

Ask for the exact information

Home Help Direct may use both employed helpers and self-employed contractors. The checks and responsibilities must be appropriate to the individual, role and agreed work. We can explain the relevant identity, reference and DBS-check arrangements before a visit is confirmed.

Before agreeing a visit

  • Ask which identity, reference or right-to-work checks apply.
  • Ask what experience is relevant to the work.
  • Ask which insurance applies to the service proposed.
  • For any DBS claim, ask for the exact level and why the role is eligible.

Ask us about the checks and arrangements that apply to your proposed service before confirming a visit.

Questions before booking

Safer-visit FAQs

Should I share bank or card security details?

No. Do not share PINs, passwords, online-banking details or security answers. Shopping budgets, payment and receipts should be agreed separately.

Does Home Help Direct provide personal care?

No. The current service is practical and social support only. Personal care and clinical services are outside the offer.

Are all Home Helpers Enhanced DBS checked?

The appropriate DBS check depends on the role and its eligibility. We can discuss what checks apply to the person and work being arranged, rather than using a blanket badge.

What if I need urgent or emergency help?

Home Help Direct is not an emergency response service. Use the appropriate emergency or healthcare route for urgent safety or medical needs.
